A ‘Dreamer’ lives in limbo as he launches his career

By Paul July 12, 2018

Kevin Ortiz has many dreams, but we’ll start with three:

  1. He wants to visit every Major League ballpark in the country, culminating with Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. He has loved baseball since he was a child.
  2. He aspires to earn a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.
  3. He wishes to continue living legally in the United States, with a pathway to citizenship.

The clock is ticking on the third.

Ortiz is 27 years old and a “Dreamer.” He became a legal resident of the U.S. in 2013 through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival policy enacted by President Barack Obama.

His DACA eligibility expires next year, and it’s unclear where that will leave him.
