Washington, DC – TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for immigrant youth, today offered a reminder that the deadline for applications for scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year closes on March 4, 2021. The organization’s expanded eligibility criteria opens applications to DREAMers who have DACA, TPS or who came to the country before November 1, 2015 and otherwise meet the DACA eligibility criteria.

The scholarship round includes a focus on El Paso-area immigrant youth in their pursuit of a college education. In recent years, TheDream.US has awarded more than 80 scholarships to The University of Texas El Paso and paid over $1.5M in awards. Additionally, Texas DREAMers attend five other Partner Colleges in the state: San Antonio College, Texas A&M-San Antonio, University of Houston, UNT Dallas, and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Learn more about the National Scholarship and how to apply before the March 4, 2021 deadline here.

According to Candy Marshall, president of TheDream.US: “Now is the time for immigrant youth to go to college. With DACA solidly in place and the potential for legislation that would provide DREAMers with permanent residency, a college education is key to pursuing a meaningful career that will help immigrant youth in the El Paso area and across America contribute to the future of our country. We want to thank UTEP and our Partner Colleges in Texas and across America for helping immigrant youth have the opportunity to pursue their higher education and career dreams.”

According to Nancy Sanchez, a senior business major and TheDream.US Scholar attending The University of Texas El Paso, “When I got TheDream.US scholarship, my mother cried and my sisters jumped around the house excitedly. I was silent for the moment, thinking back to the nights of my father working, running on little sleep, and my mother’s fear compounded by financial woes. It was not only my dream come true, it was their dream come true.”

The deadline for applications for the National Scholarship is March 4, 2021. Learn more here
